South Jersey's temperature rarely drops low enough for ice skating to be possible. Normally I go to man made rinks, which are overcrowded and the views aren't spectacular. So I decided to do something different this year. I'd go in search of a frozen lake with great views, but more importantly it had to be safe to skate on. My search led me to Chapel Pond in Keene Valley NY about 5 hrs North of New York City.

Chapel Pond was the perfect spot. I knew it wouldn't be crowded, because there was about a foot of snow covering the lake. It would take a little sweat equity but the views would be worth it.

After clearing off enough snow the ice started to show. Which meant it was time to lace up the skates.

I didn't need a ton of space, just enough to get a few laps in an enjoy the mountains all around me.
